District Facilities Plan, Okanagan Similkameen School District, BC
School District 53 (Okanagan Similkameen)
Preparation of a long-range facilities plan for a school district with ten schools in five communities and declining enrolment. The emerging plan called for a major redevelopment of a secondary school, the closure of three schools, and the conversion of a school to serve K-12. Benefits of the plan included the reduction of 570 surplus spaces, a maintenance budget allocated to five instead of eight schools, improved facility conditions, significant administrative savings, and access to a broader range of educational opportunities for secondary students. Completed in 2010.
