Ronald Painter, Associate
Ron Painter brings thirty years of management experience in institutional and community corrections. He also can draw on five years experience in the field of Aboriginal justice policy and program development. As a consultant, Ron specializes in the operational planning and facilities programming of correctional facilities.
The following are highlights from Ron's career:
- While Manager for the Mentally Disordered Offenders/Forensic Care Strategy project, Ron provided overall project management and chaired the interagency working committee.
- While Manager of Special Projects for BC Corrections Branch, Ron conducted the Custody Configuration Project. This involved the identification of operating, staffing and administrative anomalies between the six major (150-300 beds) and four minor (50-90 beds) adult provincial correctional centres. The objectives were to maximize housing capacity, minimize operating costs and standardize procedures.
- Also while Manager of Special Projects for BC Corrections Branch, Ron reviewed the design and operational plans for the 300-bed Port Coquitlam Pretrial Services Centre. The review resulted in a budget reduction of at least $10 million.
- As Project Director for the replacement of the Lower Mainland Regional Correctional Centre, Ron directed the operational closure of the 500-bed LMRCC with construction schedules of the 254-bed Fraser Regional Correctional Centre and the 150-bed Surrey Pretrial Services Centre. This involved the development of new programs and liaison with the complete design and construction team on physical plant design, specifications, and security equipment requirements.
- As Regional Coordinator for the Aboriginal Consultation Project, Ron chaired a government team that initiated meetings between justice agencies and the Sto:Lo Nation to identify their concerns about the justice system, implement bridging programs and facilitate communication between Aboriginal people and the justice system.
- As Regional Director of the Vancouver Metro Region, Ron was responsible for the management of correctional programs including three major secure institutions (British Columbia Correctional Centre for Women, Vancouver Pretrial Services Centre, Willingdon Youth Detention Centre) as well as probation services, bail services and family court counseling.
- As District Director of Surrey Pretrial Services, Ron was responsible for the initiation and management of a 186-bed secure remand facility.
- As District Director for Chilliwack Forest Camps, Ron was responsible for the management of open correctional centres, secure adult facilities, and community supervision programs.
Ron has worked on several Matrix projects, including the Whitehorse Correctional Centre, the Saint Lawrence Valley Treatment Centre and the Near North Correctional Complex. |
