Project
Robron Centre, Campbell River, BC
School District 72 (Campbell River)
Since 2004 when it was closed as a middle school, Robron Centre has evolved as a multi-tenant centre with an education focus. With the general objective of increasing utilization, school district officials applied for the centre to be part of the School Community Connections Program. Since this program was developed to encourage partnerships between schools and local governments, the City of Campbell River became an important participant in determining the best future uses for the centre. After considering a range of possibilities, we chose the promotion of lifelong learning as the central theme for the centre. Based on an analysis of the opportunities and constraints presented by the existing building, and the needs of the existing occupants, we developed a redevelopment concept for the centre. We also developed a business case whereby increased rental revenues would pay for renovation costs. Completed in 2008.
