Project
Thomas Haney Centre, Maple Ridge, BC
School District 42 (Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows)
The Thomas Haney Centre is a secondary school and community college, combined with community recreational and cultural facilities. We worked with a joint steering committee to prepare a workable development strategy and facilities program for design. The 1,000–student secondary school was planned to incorporate many initiatives in curriculum development, particularly the concept of individualized progress. The college, planned as a satellite campus of Douglas College, placed a high priority on programming flexibility. Recreational facilities were mostly outdoor playing fields. The primary cultural facility was a 400–seat theatre, which was to serve both community theatre groups as well as the high school drama program. Much of our work involved determining the nature and scope of shared use. The capital budget for the project was approximately $30 million. Completed in 1989.
