Project
Keewatin Boarding Home, Winnipeg, Manitoba
NWT Department of Health - NWT Public Works
Residents of the Keewatin Region in the Northwest Territories receive tertiary level health services by being flown to Winnipeg. While waiting to receive medical care, patients reside in a boarding home. We examined the relative costs and benefits of three options to improve the Keewatin Boarding Home: renovate the existing facility, relocate to a more suitable existing building, or construct a new facility. We assessed the demand for services; defined the facilities program; identified properties that could be purchased and modified to suit the program; and conducted comparative cost analyses. We coordinated input from consultants, users and clients in Winnipeg, Yellowknife and Rankin Inlet. The conclusion was to build a new 960 m2 facility. Completed in 1989.
