Bonner and Quamichan Secondary Schools, Duncan, BC
School District 65 (Cowichan)
In conjunction with the opening of the new Francis Kelsey Secondary School, the grade configuration of both Quamichan Middle School in Duncan and George Bonner Junior Secondary School in Mill Bay were to change from Grades 7 to 9 to Grades 6 to 8. In the absence of Ministry of Education facilities design guidelines for Middle Schools, we were asked to establish a methodology for re–evaluating the capacities of the two schools. The approach taken involved examining the capacities of each facility as both an elementary and secondary school, based on Ministry guidelines, an analysis of existing building areas, and the informed opinion of building users. Completed in 1994.
