North Slave Correctional Facilities, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories
NWT Justice - NWT Public Works and Services
The North Slave Correctional Facilities comprise two new linked buildings — a 186–bed adult male correctional facility and a 24–bed male young offender facility. We developed a facilities program for the adult facility, and established a viable approach to sharing services between the two facilities. Tasks included identifying future bed requirements, establishing the living unit configuration and determining detailed space requirements. We assisted the client in defining a future operational model, including organizing a tour of notable correctional centres in Minnesota that use the proposed direct supervision living unit concept. After producing a functional plan for the facilities, we consulted with management and staff to review and confirm all aspects of the original facilities program. Later during the design stage, we were retained to evaluate program compliance. Completed in 2001.
